Donald Delmar Young was born on November 29, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Charles and Reba Young. Don passed away at St. Anthony Hospital, Gig Harbor, WA on April 4, 2023 after a short illness.
Don attended Olympic College, meeting his wife Carol during his days there. He led a career of several professions; serving in the United States Navy on the USS St. Paul from 1946-48. He also owned his own business alongside Carol, The Learning Tree, providing education materials throughout the Puget Sound area. Don eventually retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Among some of his accomplishments, Don created and patented a handheld world time computer before the advent of cell phones! He also held a private pilot license. Following his retirement from PSNS, Don went to University of Washington, obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Fisheries. He was a proud member of the Olympic Astronomical Society.
Some of Don's favorite pastimes included aviation, astronomy, sailing, and volksmarching. His unrelenting curiosity led to the completion of a diverse body of coursework at Olympic College in Bremerton. Don loved to be outdoors, particularly anywhere near the water. He would observe the local birds and marine life during his adventures outdoors.
Don was preceded in passing by his parents, Charles and Reba; brother, Bill; and sister, Lois. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Carol; stepson, Henry (Linda) Fisk; stepdaughter, Heather Roberts; and step-grandchildren, Braden, Garrett (Fisk) and Logan, Ian Ryan and Madison (Roberts).
