Doris Delancy

September 24, 1920 — December 1, 2005

Doris (Moen) DeLancy, resident of Port Orchard, passed away December 1, 2005 at Ridgemont Terrace Convalescent Center in Port Orchard, Washington. She was born September 24, 1920 in Clitherall, Minnesota to George and Augusta Moen. After graduating from Battle Lake High School, she attended Lutheran Bible Institute and worked in pediatric nursing. In 1951, Doris visited Port Orchard to stay with her cousin, Rev. Abraham Moen, founding Pastor of First Lutheran Church. There she met a member of the congregation, Robert DeLancy, and they married the following year. As a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and formerly First Lutheran Church, Doris sang in the choir and actively participated in womens' organizations. One of her most enjoyable activities was working with the Ladies' Guild in hosting special dinners. She especially enjoyed baking and other aspects of homemaking. The children in her neighborhood were pleased when she would deliver their birthday cakes. Doris worked on sewing projects from clothing to quilting, patiently teaching her daughters starting at a young age. A very thoughtful person, she kept track of all special occasions to celebrate with her friends and relatives, sending cards & letters to everyone. It was important for them to know how important they were to her! The staff at Ridgemont Terrace has provided excellent care for Doris since her stroke in 1996. Many thanks from members of her family to all caregivers throughout the 9 years of her residence there. Additional recognition is extended to hospice workers for their comforting presence her last few months. Survivors include daughters, Adele Bainter & husband Greg Bainter of Yakima; Doreen Ross & husband Mark Ross of Winnipeg, Manitoba, one grandchild, Lauren Bainter; three brothers Elmer, Millard, and Sam Moen of Vining,Minnesota & one sister, May Linder and husband, Bert of Clitherall, Minnesota; nephews Darrell Tuel, Bradley Linder and niece, Barbara Bjerketvet. Doris was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Tuel, and a niece, Glenda Sethney. On June 19, 2005, Doris lost her husband of 53 years, Robert ("Bob") DeLancy. They are now together once again. Visitation will be Thursday, December 8 & Friday, December 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, with a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 14 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Port Orchard.
