Doris L Griffis

Doris (Lee) Griffis, age 85, of Port Orchard Washington passed away on Monday, April 25, 2022 at her residence. Doris was born on March 15, 1937 in New York City, New York. She grew up in Baltimore, MD where she attended and graduated from High School. Doris began a nursing career, training at the Hospital of Joint Disease, School of Practical Nursing in New York City and graduated in 1958. She worked at, what’s now known as “the old” Children’s Hospital in Washington D.C., on 13th Street. Later in her career, she went on to work for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a surgical nurse and completed 30 years of service with the Federal Government before retiring. During her time with NIH, Doris graduated from Marymount University, in Arlington Virginia, and earned a nursing degree.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Charles C. Griffis and her parents Hunter and Lettie Eppes.

Doris loved eating seafood, attending cook outs, reading books and visiting with family & friends. She also loved to travel. In her travels she visited numerous states and a few foreign places such as Jamaica, Guam and London, England.

Doris is survived by her son Maurice Hodges (Ruth); grandchildren Nathan Hodges and Amanda Reavis (Anthony). Close family members Michelle Prout, Eric Hodges, Joyce Greene and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
