Doris Jean Piercy

August 16, 1924 — May 10, 2014

Doris J. Piercy, 89, of Bremerton passed away on May 10, 2014 in Bremerton, WA. She was born on August 16, 1924 to Christ and Anna (Smith) Mortenson. She grew up on the family farm near Harvey and still enjoyed reminiscing about those days. She attended a one room rural school house through the 8th grade and was fortunate to have had her two sisters as her teachers during that time. She then attended Harvey High School where she graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1942. She continued her education at Minot State Teachers College (now Minot State University), where she received her Standard Degree and Teaching Certificate. She taught for several years in schools in Flaxton, N.D. and the area nearby.
She married Donald L. Piercy on December 31, 1946 in Great Falls, Montana. She then devoted the rest of her life to taking care of her husband and their growing family of five children. They made Washington their home, raising their family in Port Orchard. She was a very kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, cooking large family dinners, and watching the Mariners. She was a member of First Lutheran Community Church in Port Orchard for over 50 years.
She is survived by her four sons, Duane, David, Darryl and wife Janice, Dean and wife Sheryl; her daughter, Donna; grandchildren Carrie Wright, Chris Piercy, Erin Allen, Marshal Piercy, Brian Piercy and Emilie Pierce; great grandchildren; Daniel Pierce, Ty and Ryan Wright, Brook and Cody Stutzman, Adam and Nicole Piercy.
She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Christ Mortenson, husband Donald L. Piercy, grandson Duane Piercy Jr., great-granddaughter, Miranda Stutzman, brothers Chester and Clifford, and her twin sisters Elsie Martinson and Myrtle Rogness.
A private family service will be held with inurnment at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard. Memorial donations may be made to First Lutheran Community Church in Port Orchard or a charity of your choice.
