Douglas W. Simmons, Sr., 74, died at his home in Port Orchard on May 2, 2001. He was born on November 18, 1926 in North English, Iowa to William W. & Frances E. (Blocher) Simmons. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard. Douglas married Violet Weisert in Bullhead City, Arizona on December 1, 1999.Mr. Simmons retired in 1984 as a Defense Property Disposal Specialist with the federal goverment. He previously worked with Met Life as an Insurance Salesman. Douglas served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Petty Officer 1st Class. He enjoyed photography.Surviving are his wife Violet; son Douglas Simmons, Jr. of Port Orchard; daughters Brenda Hoisington and Pam Hall, both of Port Orchard; brothers Jim Simmons of Port Orchard and Carroll Simmons of Sun City, Arizona; sister Betty Potter of Silverdale, Washington; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Betty Smith (1993) and brother Curtis Simmons.Visitation will be at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard on Monday, May 7, 2001 from 12:00 Noon until 5:00pm. Funeral Service will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at 11:00am with interment following at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.
