Duane Robert Peterson, 85 of Port Orchard, passed peacefully in his home on February 25, 2015. He was born May 16, 1929 In Fargo, ND along with his twin sister, Donna Rae who preceded him in death in 1956. They were the first incubator twins born in ND. His mother, Della Gladys (Nyberg) passed away in 1932. Their father, Kenneth Ferdinand, remarried Maverne Joy (Sweet) when the kids were young.
The family moved to Bremerton in the early 1940’s, then settled in Port Orchard. Duane graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1947; went to a year of technical college; then began working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Shipfitter. Moving on to become a Structural Steel & Welding Inspector. While working for Pittsburgh Testing Lab in Seattle, he traveled all over the country inspecting materials to be used in roadways, bridges & structures throughout the U.S. He had been to Korea, Japan, China & Thailand, before retiring at the age of 70. He also coached Port Orchard Little League Baseball for 5 years, before moving to CA from 1960-962 for his work.
Duane is survived by his wife, Deloris Jane (Price) of 62 years. They were married on July 18, 1952 and have resided in the same residence in Port Orchard since 1956. Together they raised 5 children: Belinda K. Alexander; Barbara A Peterson; Elizabeth J. Peterson; Kenneth W. Peterson; & James D. Peterson (all living in or near Port Orchard); and a granddaughter April N. Autry of NY, all surviving. He has one remaining sister, Paula Cramer of Sequim. There are 6 other grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
