Duane Arthur Petro, 74 of Port Orchard, died April 5, 2012. He was born October 3, 1937 in Crawfordsville, IN to Bryan & Juanita (Paxton) Petro. He graduated from South Kitsap HS in 1955 and from Olympic College with an Associate’s degree. He married Janet Ames on February 7, 1956 and Pat Ness on July 28, 1990. Duane worked as a Welder and Nuclear Inspector at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring as a Planner & Estimator. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate on the USS Yorktown from 1956-1959. Duane built floats for Fathoms O’ Fun. He was one of the first to learn to run an in home dialysis machine in 1973 for a mutual friend. He started the first Dixieland Music Festival in Kitsap County and was an active member of the Peninsula Festival Association. He was a member of Eagles, VFW & Elks. Surviving are son Bryan Gilbert Petro of Port Orchard; daughter Janel (Erick) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Sarah Scheib & Jason Hesseltine; great-grandchildren Makenzie & Carson. Preceded in death by sister Phyliss Russell & niece Juanita Veit. No services are planned at his request. Iinurnment at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton.
