Edelmiro Torres Cantu, 75 of Port Orchard, Washington died in Bremerton, Washington on February 27, 2007. He was born in Matamoros, Mexico on November 13, 1931 to Salvador & Antonia (Gomes) Cantu. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He married Dora Carranza on April 30, 1960, also in Corpus Christi. Edelmiro worked for 20 years as a Sheetmetal Mechanic at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Shop 17 in Bremerton, retiring in 1991. He also installed heating & air conditioning in California and Texas for 20 years and previously drove a Yellow Cab. Edelmiro enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers. He loved dogs, cats, and birds. He especially loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren. He liked to dance and eat. Edelmiro also enjoyed attending Full Gospel Business Men's breakfasts & dinners, Catholic Carasmatic Prayer Meetings, and Spanish Masses. He volunteered at St. Gabriel Harmony Club. Edelmiro was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, a former choir member, Euchristic Minister at the church and home bound, did Jail Ministry prior to his illness in 2001. He worked at the Election Polls after retirement. He volunteered at the church, as a Cub Scout Lead, and for Little League in Corpus Christi. Surviving are his wife Dora; sons Eddy Cantu & former wife Sally Morrison of Port Orchard and Jesse (Megan) Villalobos of Daytona Beach, Florida; daughters Bernadette (Gerry) Hoffman of Port Orchard, Veronica Garrison of Menomince, Michigan, and Kandyce Moore of Cheney, Washington; brothers Merardo (Mary) Cantu and Robert (Celia) Cantu, both of Corpus Christi; sisters Lucinda Church and Josie Carranza, both of Corpus Christi; Grandchildren Lucinda, Vennessa, Thersa, Gabriel, Joshua, Timothy, Julia, Nickalas, Alexis, Sarah, and Ethan; and great-grandchildren Anthony & Trent. He was preceded in death by brothers Salvador & Jose Cantu and sister Modesta Reyes. Visitation is at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard. Interment will follow at Sunset Lane Memorial Park, also in Port Orchard.
