Edward Martin

November 3, 1920 — July 24, 2009

Edward M. Martin died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 24, 2009 at the Umpqua Valley Nursing Home in Roseburg, Oregon.  He was born November 3, 1920 in High Point, North Carolina to Andrew & Betty Martin.    Edward joined the U.S. Navy at an early age and retired at Bangor Submarine Base.  He advanced from Seaman to 1st Lieutenant, something which he was very proud of.  He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II.  He married Marsha P. Reynolds on July 31, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia.  After his military retirement, he worked at Boeing Co. & South Kitsap High School, where he also retired.  After his retirement, he became involved in showing and raising horses, which he loved very much.  He became President in Pinto & Arabian Associations and was very active in these organizations, where he again excelled.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marsha, brother James & sister Francis.  He is survived by his son Donald Martin & his wife Julie; sister Peggy Wiley & her husband Charles; grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Christian, Melissa (Paul) Sperry & Leanne (Lucas) Garner; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00pm on Wednesday, July 29th at Rill's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.  Celebration of Life service 10:00 am on Thursday, July 30, 2009 also at Rill's, followed by interment at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, ATTN: Memorials, 2120 1st Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109
