E.L. Coleman

E.L. "AL" Coleman, a longtime Olalla resident, died September 12, 2004 at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, Washington. He was 83. He was born June 2, 1921 in Oldham, South Dakota to Edwin and Lillian (Comstock) Coleman. Al married Mary Jane (Middleton); and, married Frances (Nikolac) December 8, 1972 in Gig Harbor, Washington. He graduated from Oldham High School in Oldham, South Dakota in 1929. He served in the U.S. Navy from August 30, 1942 - December 22, 1945 - attaining rank of Fireman First Class. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal (6 stars); Good Conduct Medal; WWII Victory Medal. He worked as a machinist in Seattle until 1984. Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking. He was a member of the Family Bible Church in Olalla, Washington. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Nikolac) of the family home in Lacey, Washington; sons - Steve Coleman of Tacoma, Washington, Kym Clark (& wife, Mary) of Gig Harbor, Washington; daughters - Karen Lay (& husband, Larry) of Lacey, Washington, Robyn Moe (& husband, Mike) of Westport, Washington; brother - Boyd Coleman of Woodinville, Washington; sister - Phyllis of Sedro Woolley, Washington; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother - Francis. Reverend Jerry McMahan will be officiating at the Memorial to be held Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Olalla Grange (7554 SE Fragaria Rd, Olalla).
