Elaine A. Dilworth

October 2, 1943 — December 7, 2016

Elaine was born in Mansfield, MA on October 2, 1943. She was the daughter of immigrant parents from Sicily, Joseph and Maria Mazzarino and had an older brother Vito. Elaine was very proud of her Sicilian heritage.

After the railroad took over the property of her father’s business he packed up the family and moved to San Pedro when Elaine was 13 years old. Tragically her father passed away from a heart attack soon after arriving in CA. Her brother Vito, 18 years her elder assumed the father role.
Elaine graduated from San Pedro High School in 1961 and began working as a secretary immediately thereafter. She loved to go dancing with her friends at the San Pedro USO and there she met the love of her life, Richard Dilworth in 1962. Elaine was dating one of Richard’s shipmates and Richard was dating one of Elaine’s friends when they met. Soon they realized that they belonged together and started dating. Richard asked her to marry him shortly thereafter. It was not an easy ask, Richard was not Catholic, Sicilian or a Doctor. After a lengthy engagement they were married on October 17, 1964 and stayed married for 52 years. She used to joke with Richard that Sicilians brought a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘till death do us part’. She wasn’t kidding.

Richard and Elaine were blessed with a baby girl, Jayna, in 1966. Elaine was born to be a mom and she loved Jayna fiercely. Two years later they welcomed a son David. Shortly after David was born, Richard got out of the Navy and moved the family to Seattle. Elaine missed California but Seattle became her home. Four years later Richard started working at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton and the family settled in Port Orchard where she remained for the rest of her days. Elaine loved her new community and had many dear and close friends. She loved spending time with her family, going on cruises, visiting Cabo San Lucas, playing cards, cooking (she was a fantastic cook), doting on her 5 grandchildren, keeping her home spotless, and filling out honey do lists for Richard. She loved to go clamming on the Hood Canal, partying with her sorority sisters, shopping for jewelry, and talking on the phone. She loved spending time on her deck drinking coffee enjoying the beautiful view of the Seattle skyline. Whenever a friend was in need, Elaine was there to help no matter how big or how small the emergency. She was selfless, generous and kind.

Elaine peacefully passed away in her Manchester home surrounded by her loved ones on December 7, 2016. She is survived by her husband Richard, Daughter Jayna and her husband Eric, Son David and wife Stacy and her 5 grandchildren Amanda, Jacob, Kayla, Christiaan and Cameron and her brother Vito.
