It is with great sorrow that Elfrida Light passed from this life into God's loving arms on May 21st, 2022, at the age of 73. Elfrida was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on January 1st, 1949, to Ramon and Clemencia Gines. With her father serving in the U.S. Army, she lived in France for several years before moving to Seaside, California. Elfrida graduated from Seaside High School prior to working on a Data Processing degree at Monterey Peninsula Community College where she met her future husband, Robert J. Light. They married on January 4th, 1969, and gave birth to a son, Robert A. Light, on September 16th, 1973. After a number of years working in the telecommunications industry, Elfrida and her family moved to Port Orchard, Washington, in 1977 where she engaged in numerous activities involving book clubs, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, and charitable causes like St. Vincent de Paul and Goodwill Industries.
Elfrida enjoyed reading, puzzles, playing cards, cooking, watching detective stories, caring for pets, feeding the backyard squirrels, shopping, and exploring new restaurants. She was always a stalwart figure supporting and being involved with her husband and son in any endeavor including work, Navy and Air Force events, school, sports, travel, hobbies, and attending St. Gabriel Catholic Church. One of Elfrida's favorite destinations was Oahu, Hawaii, where the most recent family vacation occurred for their 50th wedding anniversary in 2019. She thoroughly enjoyed a variety of music genres from the 60's through the 90's with two of her favorite groups being the Supremes and Bee Gees. Her sense of adventure and zeal for life were only surpassed by her love for her family, friends, and fellow humans. Elfrida is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert J. Light, her son, Robert A. (Christina) Light, her sister, Belen Gines, and brother, Ramon (Pauline) Gines. She will always be loved and greatly missed.
Elfrida's memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1st, 2022, beginning with a viewing at Rill Chapel at 9am, followed by the Rosary and Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, and concluding with a Graveside Service at Sunset Lane and Reception at Rill Chapel both beginning at 12:15pm.
