Ellar Summers

Ellar Marie Summers, 84, a resident of Olalla died peacefully at home of respiratory failure on August 30, 2008.  She was born in Ada, Oklahoma to S. C. and Martha (Lusk) McKaskle on October 6, 1923. She attended school in Ada and relocated to Alameda, California at age 20 after marrying Lois Summers in Bebee, Oklahoma November 15, 1941. He preceded Ellar in death in 1977. She lived in Alameda for a total of 55 years then moved to Olalla, Washington where she lived for nine years until her death. She worked for Skippy Peanut Butter as a Food Production Manager retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church and served as a Vacation Bible School volunteer; foster parent and member of the Warehousemen’s Union. She was a master cake baker and decorator; loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charley, Gaines, Andrew, Henry and Roy Lee McKaskle; sisters Pearl Choate and Dorothy Dillard. She is survived by her sons Phillip E. Summers (Alanna) of Alameda, California and Royce D. Summers (Deborah) of Del Rio, Texas; daughters Phyllis M. Smith (Jack) of Olalla and Martha A. Henson (Pee Wee) of Reno, Nevada; 5 grandchildren Jack, Paul Amber, Nicole and Sean; 4 great-grandchildren Robbie, Lucas, Abigail and Brandon; extended family of Bonnie Cecil, Jackie Luetke, Oneita Dick and their families. She enjoyed the many friends she made in California and Washington. A special thanks to her doctor Ginny Sugimoto, M. D. and her nurse Trish for their great care. Ellar will be inurned at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA at a later date.
