Ellen May Wear was born on June 10, 1924 to Carl and Minnie Kelm in East Liverpool, Ohio. She was the youngest of 5 children. Her family was very poor and she lost both parents by the time she was 20 years old.
She met and married Floyd Wear, an airman in the United States Air Force, in 1945. During the years of military service her three children, Bobbie, Randy and Rick were born.
Ellen went to School to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and was very proud of that accomplishment. Nursing came natural to her and she loved taking care of patients. She was instrumental in creating a photographic studio with Floyd and worked side by side with him until his death in 1990.
Ellen was warm and had a way of engaging people. Casual acquaintances loved her and even total strangers were especially warm and kind to her. She delighted in children, most especially her grandchildren, and her entire family. She found joy in simple things. She had great love for gardening, nature, long walks, reading, taking care of people in need and her family (she especially enjoyed fixing meals for us when we came over.
She is survived by daughter, Bobbie (Jim) Hassebrock in Port Orchard, WA, and sons Randy (Kay Duncan) Wear in Kirkland, WA and Rick (Shannon Moore) Wear, Everett, WA, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Green Acres in Ferndale, WA on August 7 at 2:00pm for anyone who would like to attend and there will also be a public Celebration of Life on August 27 between noon and 4:00 at the Peace Arch Park in Blaine, Washington.
The Wear family is deeply appreciative of the loving care Ellen received from the wonderful hospice care team at Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care.
