Emma Youngstrom

December 20, 1909 — February 5, 2010

Emma Wilma (Miller) Youngstrom of Port Orchard, died on February 5, 2010. She was 100 years old. She was born December 20, 1909 in Yates Center, Kansas, the 4th child in a family of 8 children. Her parents Frank C. & Emma B. (Stockebrand) Miller moved their family to a ranch north of Roberts, Idaho in 1917.   Emma married Fred Youngstrom of Menan, Idaho in 1928 and they had one child, Walter, born in 1929. They lived in the Menan/Idaho Falls area until moving to Oakland, California in 1939, where they worked in Defense industry jobs. They returned to Idaho in 1945 after World War II to a ranch south of Salmon. Emma was a devoted wife and mother helping her husband in his ranching, building, and bakery businesses and insisting on educational study for her son.   Emma enjoyed family, friends, church activity, gardening and all handiwork from embroidery to quilting and everything in between. Her flowers and veggies were outstanding with much help from her husband. She was a very industrious homemaker and became so accomplished at everything she took up. She took LPN studies and training and graduated in 1956. She worked for 25 years as an LPN at Steele Memorial Hospital in Salmon, a work she really enjoyed, seeing people recover after their surgery or illness. She shared her flowers with her patients to brighten their hospital stay. She was always a helpmate to others, her husband and son and family. Her husband Fred died in 1994 and in 1996 her son moved her to be with him in Washington State. Her son and his wife Arra managed her affairs for her since then at hoe and assisted living facilities, and finally at Life Care Center nursing home.   She is survived by her only child, Walter, of Port Orchard, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her brother John Miller of La Mesa, California.   Burial will be at the family plot in the Salmon Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Salmon Methodist Church, 201 Lombard Street, Salmon, Idaho 83467.
