Emmitt Kraft,

April 26, 1914 — May 7, 1999

Emmitt Edward Kraft, 85, of Bremerton died May 7, 1999.  He was born April 26, 1914 in Turtle Lake, North Dakota and was one of eight children born to Emmitt E. & Reuby R. (Spaulding) Kraft.Mr. Kraft served in the Army from 1942 to 1960, retiring as a WO3 after serving at a number of duty stations in Europe, North Africa and the Orient.  During WWII he was stationed with 3485th Ordnance, and years later enjoyed attending their reunions.He married Clara Frank in 1944.  After his service in the Army, they settled in Colorado Springs, Colorado to raise two children.Mr. Kraft moved to Bremerton in 1969 and worked as a Machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.  He married Ruth Mary Lantz in 1971.  After he retired from the shipyard, they enjoyed traveling, managing to visit every state but Hawaii.  When asked why they never went there, Emmitt would smile and say that they were waiting for a bridge to be built, so they could take their trailer.  The Krafts were members of the Kitsap Sams Chapter of the Good Sams Club.Survivors include his wife; son Emmitt Joe Kraft of Texas; daughter Kathy Poland of California; 3 brothers and 3 sisters; 7 grandchildren and 3 step-daughters.Memorial Service Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at 2:00PM at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Society.
