Enid Elizabeth Blake Webber passed away peacefully in Silverdale, WA on September 17th at age 96. She was born on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918 in the family home in Jovita, WA, the second of three children born to Elizabeth Erickson Blake and James William Bryce Blake. She attended a one room school through the 6th grade. Her family moved to Tacoma where she attended Mary Lyons Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935. She attended Pacific Lutheran College and graduated with a teaching certificate in 1937. She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Western Washington State College in Bellingham. Her first teaching job was at Weyerhauser Grade School near Eatonville. She also taught 3rd grade at Pacific City just prior to WWII.
In 1942 she married George Webber, and they were married until his death in 1996. In 1942 and 1944 respectively, they had two children, George Jr. and Elizabeth. After starting her family Enid returned to teaching in 1947 at Fife School where she taught 3rd grade for nearly 20 years. She was a very respected teacher and during those years gained considerable recognition for the special curriculum she developed and taught relating to the culture of "Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest". After her retirement in the late 1960's she continued her interaction with Pacific Lutheran University and established the "Blake-Webber" student scholarship as a tribute to her parents.
Enid and her husband George lived for many years in University Place. An avid gardener she was a founding member of the Olympic View Garden Club. After retirement she and her husband moved to their beach home on Hood Canal near Belfair where she attended St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Tahuya. Always an animal advocate she was a founding member of the Humane Society of Mason County.
Enid is survived by her daughter Liz and her husband Greg Hanson of Belfair, and by her son George and his wife Susan of Leesburg, VA, and by her sister Marian Frye of Belfair. She has two grandchildren, David Webber of Los Angeles, and Kate Campbell of Charleston, S.C. She has four great grandsons. Enid's black lab Luke, a rescue dog of 15 years, continues to thrive.
