Enos Bryant

April 13, 1932 — August 3, 2012

Enos G. Bryant, 80 of Port Orchard, died in Gig Harbor, WA on August 3, 2012.  He was born April 13, 1932 in Dillons, SC to Soloman & Nettie (Morris) Bryant, the youngest of 4 brothers.   Enos referred to himself as a “Country Boy”.  Being from a poor family, Enos worked in the cotton fields from the age of 5.  As a high school sophomore, Enos left school to work at a dairy farm making $25 a week.  At his request, he was drafted into the Army at the age of 21.  He served 21 years in the U.S. Army in both the Korean & Vietnam wars.  He was also stationed in Germany and was a Drill Instructor and an ROTC Instructor at the University of Wyoming.  While stationed in Germany, he met his bride Lisa.  He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. After retiring from the military, Enos was employed as an apprentice at Charleston naval Shipyard and later relocated to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.  He worked as an Insulator, again retiring in 1995.  Sadly, he lost Lisa just prior to his second retirement. Enos served our country in the military and civil service for more than 40 years.  He earned numerous decorations, awards and kudos.  He always conducted himself in a manner he felt to be honest, dutiful and respectful. Enos kept himself very busy.  He was an active member of the Lion’s Club  helping with seasonal fund raisers and collected eyeglasses, hearing aids, cell phones, food & funds for those in need.  He honestly felt that “when you help those in need you are helping the community in general.  He volunteers at Life Care Center in Port Orchard.  He enjoyed helping the residents as much, or possibly even more, than they appreciated his help.  He was a member of Port Orchard United Methodist Church and could be found ringing the large bell outside each Sunday, ushering, and bringing donuts to enjoy after worship.  Enos was a bit of a one-man welcome wagon.   All this and he still found time to bowl in 3 different leagues.  Enos loved everyone and felt the more he helped, the more he was blessed. Surviving is brother J.C. (Shirley) Bryant of Charleston, SC. Graveside service at 11:00am on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard.
