Eugene Mead

July 4, 1920 — August 31, 2012

Eugene Raymond Mead, 88, a resident of Port Orchard, died in Bremerton on August 31, 2008 of natural causes. He was born July 4, 1920 in Lansford, North Dakota to David and Mary (Hart) Mead. He married Stella R. Tucek in Port Orchard on December 1, 1958. She preceded him in death in 1991. Eugene served in the United States Navy from 1937 to 1945 as a cook attaining the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class. He served on board the USS West Virginia and the USS Portland and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He later worked at Submarine Base Bangor as a Railroad Maintenance Supervisor retiring in 1975 after 31 years. He loved gardening, fishing and taking care of the farm. He is survived by his brother King Anderson of California, niece and main caregiver Aleda Sizemore and many other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Retsil Veterans’ Home for their level of care. Celebration of Life will be September 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm at 1st Christian Church of Port Orchard, 4885 Hovde Rd.
