Eugene (Oscar) Breitenstein Was born in So. Colby, WA. on 3/18/1922 and passed away on 7/27/2015 in Tacoma, WA. at the age of 93. Dad was born to Ed & Inga (Johnson) Breitenstein. He had one Brother and 2 Sisters. His Family was part of the original Settlers in So. Colby.
Dad graduated from So. Kitsap High School, and went on to UPS College for 1 year. He then enrolled in the PSNS apprentice program as a machinist. From there he enlisted for duty in the Army Air Core. After being sent to CA. he married Shirley (Blanchard from Port Orchard) in Bakersfield on Sept. 26, 1944.
He worked the flight line until he was discharged in Nov. 1945. He returned to the Northwest where he and Shirley settled in Port Orchard WA. They had 2 children Linda (Heleniak) and Ed Breitenstein.
He went back to work at the PSNS and retired there 35 1/2 years later. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and gardening. He was Coach and Manager of the "Eastern Little League "Fleet Reserve" team for eight years.
The family moved to So. Colby in 1956 into his parents home. After retirement he spent many hours on his John Deere Tractor and reading his "Bremerton Sun". Oscar and Shirley celebrated their 50Th Wedding Anniversary in 1994. Mom passed away in 1997 and Dad continued to live by himself until his stroke in May of 2006.
Dad was moved to Tacoma, and lived in (Living Life Care home). He was taken care of for 9 Years by Chona & Rey Aquinde and their wonderful staff of Care Givers. We are forever grateful for the care you gave our Dad.
