Evelyn J. Lawrence, 86, of Southworth, WA went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 18, 2014, in Bremerton, WA.
She was born August 16, 1927 in Auburn, WA, to Charles and Margaret (Rodstol) Westlund. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1945 and married L. Robert Lawrence on July 31, 1947.
In June of 1945 Evelyn worked for attorney Ray R. Greenwood. In January of 1946 she began working in the Auditor’s office in the Motor Vehicle Department and transferred to the Recording Department in March of 1946. Evelyn retired in 1990 having worked for the Auditor’s office for a total of 29 years with time taken off for having her three children. Besides working full time in the Auditor’s office, she faithfully served as bookkeeper for her husband’s electrical business, Owl Electric.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt, and served her church and community with great compassion. She worked as church secretary at Harper Church for 27 years, as well as Sunday School teacher for 40 years; she was a choir member under the direction of her husband, Robert, and has held various offices of Women’s Ministries. Besides her family, her greatest passion was leading bible study at her church. Every year she organized and hosted her neighborhood watch potluck.
She liked to sing, play the piano, sew, read, bake, cook, entertain, do word search puzzles and, most importantly, read her bible and daily devotions. She participated in water aerobics twice a week, making Starbucks with special friends a highlight of her week.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, L. Robert Lawrence, brother, Paul Westlund and sister, Rose Wood.
She is survived by her loving family: son, James R. (Janet) Lawrence of Manchester, WA; daughters, Martha (Daryl) Meyer of Maple Grove, MN, and Mary (Jesse) Hicks of Port Orchard, WA; grandsons, Steve (Alicia) Lawrence of Oceanside, CA, Greg (Amber) Lawrence of Port Orchard, WA, Jeremy Hicks of Port Orchard, WA, Jeff Meyer of Maple Grove, MN, Josh (Shelbie) Hicks of Port Orchard, WA, and Dan Meyer of Missoula, MT; great-grandchildren, Trent, Austin and Haley Lawrence of Oceanside, CA, and Taylor and Madison Hicks of Port Orchard, WA.
