Faye D. Cameron, 82, a long-time Port Orchard resident passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 of natural causes. She was born October 29, 1926 to Lewis Wilson and Ida Matilda (Marshall) Dixon. She was the second daughter and the fourth of six children. Faye graduated in 1944 from the School of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri. Unable to serve in the Armed forces, she worked Civil Service as a teletype operator in the Veterans Administration, in Washington, D.C., post World War II. She met and married Navy Hospital Corpsman 1st Class, Robert (Bob) F. Cameron, stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital, April 8th, 1950. Faye began her second career as a Navy wife that spanned 27 years, following Bob from, D.C., to New Jersey, to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, to St. Louis, MO, Charleston, S.C., Long Beach, CA and finally ending up at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Washington. Faye moved to Port Orchard in 1966 while Bob was on his last NAVWESTPAC assignment at sea. Having grown up in a farming family, Faye utilized her knowledge and skills and with the help of her children, milked cows and sold the excess to neighbors who fondly remember Mrs. Cameron and “Fathom Farms” organic milk and cream sold in glass gallon jugs. She was affectionately known as “Grandma Cow” by her 2 oldest great-grandchildren. Faye was an outstanding homemaker. She took pride in her cooking and baking – mostly, for her rhubarb pie, cinnamon rolls and all the mouthwatering, delicious cookies! She enjoyed growing and picking her own fruit and vegetables, canning and making jams and jellies. Faye loved all manner of sewing and was adept in mastering the latest computerized technology to design and craft customized embroidered tee shirts, vests and outfits for her family – especially her grandchildren. She will be loved and in our hearts forever. Faye was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Darrell and Shelby; sister Reitha Ziering and brother-in-law Lee; sister-in-law Joyce Dixon; and great-granddaughter Hayley Zeigler.
