Faye (Mason) Walker, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on May 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 15, 1934, Faye had just celebrated her 90th birthday two weeks prior.
Faye was the youngest of five children born to Frank and Mamie (Haden) Mason in Wilbur, Washington. In 1939, the Mason family relocated to Cheney, Washington, where they began a new life on a chicken farm. Faye attended a one-room schoolhouse until the 7th grade, after which she transitioned to Cheney Junior High School. It was here that she met her lifelong best friend, Wanda (Wallace)Seals. The inseparable duo graduated from Cheney High School in 1952 and later moved to Port Orchard, Washington, with their spouses, remaining close until Wanda's passing in 2017.
In 1954, while working at a telephone company, Faye met Margie Webb, who invited her to a dance. There, she was introduced to James David Walker, and their whirlwind romance led to their marriage on July 31, 1954, in Spokane, Washington. The couple welcomed their first two children, Dean and Cindy, before moving to Port Orchard in 1960. Their youngest child, Todd, was born in 1963.
Faye was a devoted stay-at-home mom who also found time to engage in various entrepreneurial and community activities. She was a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, choir singer, and a cherished camp counselor and cook. A lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church, she was active in the Ladies Guild with Wanda and met another lifelong friend, Jackie Downey, through these activities. The trio spent much of their time together from 1966 onwards.
In 1970, Faye's entrepreneurial spirit led her to purchase Clarice’s Women's Clothing, which she moved to Southpark Village in 1972, renaming it "The Klothes Korner." Faye and Cindy ran the store together for over 25 years, serving the Kitsap County community with dedication and style.
Upon retirement, Faye and Jim traveled extensively in their motorhome, eventually purchasing a place at Golden Vista Resort in Arizona alongside friends from Port Orchard, Ollie and Arlene Nordby and Bonnie and Harland Grotem. They continued to enjoy their winters in Arizona, after Jim's passing in 2002, Faye maintained this tradition until she was 85.
Faye's later years were marked by the love and support of her family and hospice care team, enabling her to remain in her home until her passing. She is survived by her three children: Dean (Jackie) Walker, with their three children and four grandchildren; Cindy (Larry) Ecklund, with their two daughters and one grandchild; and Todd (Beverly Chandler) Walker, with their two daughters and one grandchild. Faye is also survived by her older sister, Molly Saty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mamie Mason; her husband of 48 years, James Walker; her brothers Bernard Harris and Vernon Mason; and her sister, Wanda Johnson.
Faye Walker lived a life rich in faith, love, and service to her Lord and Savior. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her family finds comfort in the knowledge that she is reunited with her beloved Jim in the arms of Jesus.
