Ferne Winter

Ferne L. Winter, 88 of Port Orchard, died February 19, 2012.  She was born May 20, 1923 in Pine River, MN to Roy and Ida Degnan.  After graduating from high school, she attended college and received her teaching degree.  She married Anthony Winter on July 16, 1949. After raising 6 children, she went back to work at SK High School in the attendance office.  She loved her job.   She was a devoted member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. Surviving are sons Phillip (Cathy) Winter and Douglas Winter; daughters Kathleen (Michael) McGrath, Debra (Millard) Tutwiler III, and Mary (Larry) Norton; son-in-law Arlond Goodwin;  14 grandchildren & 18 great-grandchildren;  sister Ardis Hallquist.  She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Theresa Goodwin and first granddaughter Lisa Goodwin Deisler. Rosary at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard with a Celebration of Life memorial video at 7:30pm.  Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard with a reception following in the Community room.  Private burial at Sunset Lane Memorial Park.
