Fleet Hamby died June 17, 2002 in Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, WA. He was 82.He was born in Burnsville, North Carolina May 5, 1920 to Zachariah Spencer and Anne Elizabeth (Gibbs) Hamby.He graduated from Burnsville High School of Burnsville, NC in 1939.He married in 1952 in Yarmouth, Mass.He was in the Navy from 1940-1961. He was Senior Chief Gunners Mate and received the Good Conduct Award, Navy Occupation, American Defense, American Campaign, National Defense, China Service, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, World War II Victory, Philippine Liberation Medal.Fleet became a Planner/Estimater at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 14 years retiring in 1975.He was a member of the VFW, Masonic Lodge and Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.He is survived by son Curtis Hamby of Clallam Bay, WA., daughter Nadine Hamby of Seattle, WA., sister Edith Boone of Burnsville, NC., and 1 grandchild, Lyndzie Hamby. He was preceded in death by brother - Jim Hamby and sister - Connie Morgan.Services will be held at Rill Chapel of Port Orchard, WA. Friday June 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m.
