Floyd Cydrus

April 14, 1912 — December 28, 2000

Floyd L. Cydrus was born on April 4th or April 14th we are not sure. We always celebrated his birthday on April 4th but when we got his birth certificate it said the 14th. He was born in 1912 at Chillicothe, OH. He died on December 28th, 2000 at Tacoma, Washington. His mother's name was Harriet and his father's name was Wilbur. He had 3 sisters and 7 brothers all raised in Ohio. Their names were in order of their birth, Clara, Arnold, Floyd, Chester, Albert, Sylvia, Wilbert Jr. Lester, Carl, Helen and Hansel.Floyd met Royce Mae Gallaher at Chicago Evangelist institute in 1936. They were married in Maysville, Kkentucky on January 4, 1937. During the summer of 1937, they were called by the Church of Christ in Christian Union to pastor the church at Wallston, Ohio. It was there that their first daughter, Ruth Anne, was born on July 10, 1938. That fall they made the first of many trips across the United States to visit Royce Mae's family. In January they returned to Ohio.August 20, 1939, they were both ordained during the General Council Meeting of Church of Christian Union in Circleville, Ohio. On December 30, 1939, their second daughter, Gwen was born.In the summer of 1940 Royce Mae's family visited them and Royce, Floyd and two daughters crossed the country to return with them to Tacoma, Washington. At the time Floyd established his first upholstery shop and pastored at the Wilkinson and Carbonoda Churches, a home mission for th Methodist Church. There they were blessed with daughter number three, Sharon on January 11, 1941.It was from there that due to the national situation, Floyd received notice of his acceptance as a senior air service mechanic at Patterson Field Daytona, Ohio. The family moved to Xenia, Ohio where he served until December of 1941. From there he was transferred to Kessler Field, Biloxi, Mississippi. A year later, he was transferred to Spokane Air Depot. It was during this time that Floyd received several awards for inventions on Airplanes. In 1945 he felt the call to become more directly involved in service to the Lord, so they again moved back to Ohio and then onto Loredo, Texas, where they served as missionaries for the Church of Christ in Christian Union. From there they went to Spokane and Floyd was accepted as a pastor in the Methodist Church and served the parish in Omak, Washington. He guided them through the building of a new church. They ministered there for three years. It was at this time that Dr. H. M. Cochenhaur asked Floyd if he would work with him as a field representative for the National Holiness Association. He accepted. Floyd traveled and worked with the Association for two years. Then feeling a need to be home more with three lively daughters, he established another upholstery business in Spokane, Washington and both he and Royce Mae continued to pastor in The PNW conference of the Methodist Church. They moved to Portland, Oregon in 1963 where Floyd was business manager for Cascade College. Two years later he joined the Portland School District in Career Education. In 1972 Dr. Hollis Abbott contacted them about joining the Stewardship Department of the World Gospel Mission. They then became part of the stewardship program at World Gospel Mission. In 1980 he was asked to supervise the remodeling of the Fairhaven hospital for unwed mothers into a retirement center in Scaramento, California. They remained there until 1997 when failing health brought them to Tacoma, Washington to be near their daughters and grandchildren.PLEASE SHARE YOUR COMMENTS AND MEMORIES OF FLOYD FOR ALL OF US TO ENJOY BY RESPONDING TO THIS WEBSITE.
