Born April 27, 1924 in Port Townsend, WA, Frances Lucille Wood, our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, died March 16, 2011 in Issaquah, WA. Since her husband George died in 2005, Fran had fought and conquered many maladies. This time the “last ball was rolled” and she left us to go dancing with her beloved husband. Fran was very well known in both Pierce and Kitsap Counties as a dedicated and excellent bowler. In the ‘70’s she rolled the highest scratch game for a Tacoma woman; score that wasn’t beaten for another fourteen years. Always an athlete, she was a soccer player as a girl, an excellent slow pitch pitcher an unbeatable horseshoe thrower, and a skilled ping-pong player. Mom worked many years for the Pierce County auditor’s office and spent her final working years in the same position for Kitsap County when she and George moved to their new home on the Union River just outside of Belfair, WA. Fran was very popular with everyone she met; people told her their stories and she remembered them all. She had a quick and strong mind until the very end. There are many stories about our Mom, Grandma and “Grammy” that we will talk and smile about for years to come. One of our favorite stories is that, in 2007 after a grueling chemotherapy session, she had her daughter, Jill, drive her to Olympic Community College where she enrolled in classes to get her GED. She graduated from High School at 83 and twenty-seven family members were there to cheer her on. She leaves behind a grieving and grateful family: three daughters, Janet Wright, husband Michael, Jeanie Fisk and her husband Butch, Jill Myre, daughter and best friend to the end, and her “son”, Oscar Myre III, Jill’s husband. Fran leaves grandchildren, John Scholl (Kristine), Kathy Donahoe (Kelly), Wendy Morrison (John), Rob Mapes, Terry Haddix (Bryan) Oscar Myre IV (Michelle), Kneale Lindsay, Larae Tjoelker (Shannon), Ron Fisk (Julie), Jo White (Michael) and Paul Duke. In addition, there are twenty-five great grandchildren who will miss her very much. And lastly, all who knew her will miss her caring ways and loving attention. A celebration of Fran’s life will be held Sunday, March 20th 1:00pm at the Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard. All are welcome. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
