Frank Plahs, Jr. January 14, 1937 - July 13, 2004 Frank Plahs Jr., 67, of Port Orchard, Washington and formerly of Temple City, California, died Tuesday at home. He passed away quietly while napping. He was born in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, to Frank and Bertha (Adams) Plahs. In the 1950s, he attended Elders Ridge Joint High School in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Frank lettered in track and won medals in 1952 and 1954. The caption in his Senior High School Album stated he was, "a whiz on the track..." On March 5, 1956, he married Selva Jean Heimberger in Winchester, Virginia. Frank worked for 30 years as a butcher for the Pasadena Cafeteria in Pasadena, California. He lived in Temple City, California for 32 years and in Port Orchard, Washington for the past 2-1/2 years. He loved reading (and watching) westerns, putting jigsaw puzzles together, gardening, spending time with his family (including his dogs, Buffy and Kiana), and enjoying retirement. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife; two brothers, Daniel and Robert Plahs; and three sisters, Katherine and infant girl Plahs and Evelyn Plahs Kier. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Plahs Slagle and her husband, Brian of Port Orchard, Washington; two sons, Gary Lee Plahs of Alaska and Todd Edward Plahs and his wife, Pamela, of Bon Air, Virginia; two sisters, Betty Plahs Compton of Apollo, Pennsylvania, and Anabelle Plahs Guiher of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania; and one brother, Thomas G. Plahs of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren, Melanie, Desiree, and Brittany Slagle and Amber and Timothy Plahs. A gathering of family, friends and neighbors will be at Frank's home in Port Orchard, Washington at 3:00 p.m. on July 18, 2004.
