Frank Warren Taber was born September 6 1933 in Boston Mass. He always called himself a blue blooded yankee. His mother’ s family immigrated from Holland and he had the papers to show when they came through Ellis Island. His grandfather was a sea captain and a well to do patron of Boston.
His parents moved to Burbank California when he was about eight years old. He grew up there and when he was a teenager, trained and cared for horses. He always had a love of cars and motorcycles. Where most young men had a little black book, he had a small album with pictures of his cars he owned.
After getting caught joyriding a judge gave him the choice of jail or the Navy. So for the next 22 years he served his country. His first wife Sola and he produced a son, Kenton. The marriage didn’t work out and they were divorced. He later met and married his second wife, Phyllis. They were married for a number of years and had 2 lovely girls – Michele and Lisa. Frank and Phyllis divorced in 1986.
Frank retired from the navy and moved to Washington state. He went to work for the shipyard and was there for 18 years.
A few years later he met and married Diane. They celebrated 25 years of marriage in July of 2014.
Throughout the years he had several hobbies. He raced slot cars and flew sail planes. He competed for bragging rights and was very successful. He also loved to water ski and spent many happy summer vacations with his family at the beach.
He enjoyed watching racing. His favorite races were formula 1 cars. He never missed a race.
For years Frank road a Goldwing and was a member of GWRRA and GWTA. He loved all the trips and campouts with friends and family. As a mechanic, working on motorcycles became more than a part time hobby when he opened his own shop after retiring from the shipyard. Taber’s Precision Cycles was open and successful for 10 years. He sold his Goldwing during this time and he and Diane bought matching purple Harley Davidson motorcycles.
He became interested in Fieros when they first came out in the 1980’s. He bought one and it was like a potato chip- couldn’t have just 1. At one time he owned 6. He was a member of Jet city Fieros for a few years and went to many car shows.
He also bought a 1978 GMC motorhome and was a member of the Cascaders. He and Diane went on camping trips regularly with the group.
Corvettes were always one of his favorite cars so he had to have one and he bought a beautiful red one. Glass Odyssey Corvette group welcomed them. The rides, dinners, and parties were some of Franks favorite memories.
At 75 years old, he started having health issues. A few years later he was diagnosed with ALS. He fought the disease the best he could but on December 18. 2014, after yet another bout with pneumonia, he lost his battle and passed away.
