Gary Powers

Gary C. Powers, age 57, died April 4, 2000 in Grapeview, WA.  He was born January 6, 1943 in Bremerton, WA to Paul & Beatrice (Nelson) Powers.  He was raised in Port Orchard, WA.  He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1961 and from Olympic Jr. College in Bremerton, WA., in 1965. Mr. Powers married Carolyn (Kunzl) Powers March 29, 1980 in Port Orchard, WA.  For the past 4 years, he worked as a computer consultant for Anteon Corporation. He was a nuclear inspector at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, before retiring in 1995.  He worked there for 30 years which followed completion of his sheet metal apprenticeship. Mr. Powers was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Gold Mountain Men's Club, the Bremerton Elks, Promise Keepers, and Howard's Golf Association. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of the family home on Mason Lake, sons Mike Powers of Port Orchard, WA., Frank Johnson of Boise, ID., Greg Johnson of Port Orchard, WA., Carl Johnson of Poulsbo, WA., daughter Kim Clemons of Chimacum, WA., sister Virginia Lawrence of Abbottsford, B.C., grandchildren Tom Brooke, Michelle Brooke, Desiree Cole, Paul Cole, Charlie Johnson, Sam Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, and Evan Johnson. Visitation will be at Rill Chapel, Sunday April 9, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Memorial services will  be held at Elim Lutheran Church, in Port Orchard, Monday April 10th at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane Cemetery Monday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m.Memorial donations may be sent to Lutheran Social Services, 830 Pacific, Bremerton, WA 98337.
