Gene Caldwell February 21, 1930 - May 7, 2004 Gene Maurice Caldwlle, 74, of Port Orchard died Friday at his home after a long term illness. He was born in Tacoma to Clarence and Helen (Kuhns) Caldwell. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1948. On October 12, 1956, he married Lee Stemp in Tacoma. Mr. Caldwell had worked in hotel management and was a former owner of the Beachcomber Restaurant in Port Orchard. He retired in 2003. In 1976, he ws named Port Orchard's Man of the Year by the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce. He was a past president of the Fathoms O' Fun community festival in Port Orchard. Mr. Caldwell was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, the Port Orchard Yacht Club, the Eagles, the Bremerton Elks, the Port Orchard Rotary Club and the Kitsap Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed boating, old movies, woodworking, golf, gardening and music. Survivors include his wife; a son, Patrick Gene Caldwell (& wife, Jeanie) of Tacoma, Washington; daughters - Denise Sears (& husband, Robert) of Tacoma, Washington, Kimmy Vlist (& husband, Vic) of Port Orchard, Washington; brother - Marvin Caldwell of Gig Harbor, Washington; sister - Doramae Noble of Anderson Island, Washington; 10 grandchildren (Stacey, Christopher, Shelly, Heather, David, Victor, Kasey, Jordan, Kennedy, Ashley; 3 great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by: daughter - Debra Lynn. A Memorial Mass was held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, Washington at 10:30 a.m. on May 14, 2004; and, a Memorial Reception followed at the Port Orchard Yacht Club.
