Gene Allen South, 77 of Port Orchard, died in Bremerton on January 20, 2010. He was born July 22, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Chester & Virginia (Haggard) South. He married Barbara Lou Richardson on June 15, 1956 in Palmdale, CA. She preceded him in death in 2008. Gene worked as a U.S. Postal worker for 28 years in Palmdale, CA & Bremerton, WA, retiring in 1986. He also worked part time as a delivery driver for several local businesses. He served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1951 as an E-3 and was stationed in Guam as an 88-m truck driver. Gene enjoyed spending time with his miniature Dachshund “Scooby” who was his buddy. He loved going to the casino, movies, reading books & being with his family. Surviving are sons Paul (Katherine) South of Tucson, AZ & Matthew South of Vashon, WA; daughters Elizabeth (Grant) Brown & Rebecca (Kurt) Spieth, both of Port Orchard; grandchildren Sara Brown, Zachary Spieth, Austin Brown, Kayla Spieth, Amelia South, & Dylan South. He was preceded in death by sisters Sue & Beverly. Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard.
