George Edward Allen, 58, died at his home in Port Orchard June 10, 2012. He was born November 9, 1953 in Burns, OR to Delbert R. & Grace L. (Robison) Allen. He earned a GED and attended Olympic College in Bremerton. He married Kathleen M. Flores on July 15, 1972 in Ukiah, CA. George worked as a long haul truck driver from 1992-1994, then became an intermodal relocation specialist in the Ports of Tacoma & Seattle for the next 16 years. He joined the U.S. Navy January 1971. He achieved the rank of Machinists Mate 1st Class (ss) and served aboard 5 nuclear submarines. He received Strategic Deterrent Patrol pin with 2 silver stars and 1 gold star, 4 Good Conduct Medals, Sea Service Ribbon with 1 silver star, and 2 Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbons. He was Navy Recruiter/Canvasser, Navy Recruiter in Charge (station) in Abilene, TX. He received 9 Gold Wreaths for recruiting excellence and from Commander Navy Recruiting 2 Letters of Commendation for superiority in recruiting. He transferred to Navy Fleet Reserve on 31 Jan 1991 with 20 years of service, transferred to the retired rolls 31 Jan 2001. George enjoyed home brewing under the label Brown Dog Brewing, & woodworking. He was an avid cooking enthusiast & adventurous barbequer and meat smoker. He loved spending time with his Chocolate Lab “Cinnamon”. He was a member of Adventure of Faith Presbyterian Church in Port Orchard. Surviving are wife Kathleen; daughter Karna R. (Garrett O.) Thorsby of Port Orchard; son Matthew S. Allen (engaged to Antonia Louie) of Port Orchard; grandson Gavin E. Thorsby of Port Orchard; sisters Charlotte Messenger of Portland, OR & Delphine K. Smith of Wasilla, AK. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Alba Rae Allen. Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on June 30, 2012 at Adventure of Faith Church. Burial will be at sea. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Adventure of Faith – Global Outreach.
