George Clifford Curtis, 89, a resident of Port orchard, died March 31st of natural causes. He was born April 17, 1922 in Seattle to Alanson and Esther (Anderson) Curtis. He married Celesta Dickey on June 30, 1945 in Centralia, she preceded him in death in 2011. He graduated from Granite Falls HS in 1940 and WSU with a bachelors’ degree in Farm Management and Agricultural Economics. He served in the US Army from 1946-47 attaining the rank of PFC where he specialized as a Finance Technical Clerk and Classification Specialist. He was a Cooperative Extension Agent for 34 years for both Washington State and Kitsap County, retiring in 1981. He was very involved with 4-H Youth Programs. He attended 1st Presbyterian Church of Montesano and 1st Christian Church of Port Orchard. He was a member of Kiwanis International of Port Orchard and served as president there in 1979-1980. He learned carpentry from his father at an early age and used those skills all of his life. He also enjoyed dancing and gardening. He is survived by his sons Mark Curtis (Marilyn) of Port Orchard, Bruce Curtis (Marty) of Moses Lake and Robert Curtis (Michele) of Belfair; sister Shirley Hall of Arlington and brother Alan Curtis (Shirley) of Sultan; 5 grandchildren Kelsey Curtis, Kristina Wheeler, Nicole Sablan, Crystal Vela and Steve Rinehart; 7 great-grandchildren Austin Bayne, Micah Wheeler, Isaac Wheeler, Kaylana Neville, Camden Curtis, Emma Sablan and William Cherry; special friends Barbara Ives OR, Bernice Larson of Auburn, Bonnie Wright and Doris Piercy and John Kingsbury of Port Orchard and numerous other friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Curtis. Celebration of life will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center at 11:30 am.
