George Okabe, 67, of Port Orchard, Washington died on July 6, 2003 at his Port Orchard, Washington home.He was born October 20, 1935 in Hanapepe, Kauai, Hawaii to Henry Yozo and Jean (Yasutake) Okabe.George married Reiko Arima October 9, 1956 in Okinawa, Japan.He graduated from Waimea High School in Kauai, Hawaii in 1954.George served in the U.S. Army as a metal body repairman from August 4, 1954 to August 1957 . . . attaining rank of Sgt./E5.He worked as a welder at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and transferred to Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington in 1977. He retired May 1, 1993 after 34 years. He loved gardening!! He liked to teach his grandchildren how to drive.George was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Port Orchard, Washington.He is survived by his wife, Reiko A. Okabe; two daughters, Georgette Yukiko Kurashige of Honolulu, Hawaii and Katherine Teruko Exton of Port Orchard, Washington; brothers - Wayne Okabe, James Okabe, Joe Makua, Sam Makua and Wendall Makua; sisters - Patsy Okabe, Joan Okabe, Sherry Okabe, Sandra Okabe, Gail Okabe, Evelyn Okabe, Grace Okabe, Rose Okabe; seven grandchildren (Jan Matsumoto, Charles Matsumoto Jr., and, Stepanie Sachi Roberts, Christopher Harunobu Exton, Tiffany Tomi Exton, Jonathan Tadakzu Exton and Melissa Mari Exton); one great-grandchild, Sariah Sachi Roberts.A service will be held at Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints on Hoover Ave.in Port Orchard, Washington Friday July, 11, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.Interment will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2003.Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center.
