Voorhies, 90, of Port Orchard, WA died August 15, 2010 at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard. George was born November 25, 1919 in Ruby, LA to William and Effie (Reynolds) Voorhies. He married Kathleen M. Wilkins on March 2, 1942 in Port Orchard. She preceded him in death in March 2010. George served in the US Navy as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class from 1939 to 1960. He received the Purple Heart and 14 Campaign Bars with 8 stars. After retiring from the Navy, George served as a custodian in California in the Coronado school system from 1960 to 1972. He attended the Baptist church while in LA and the Palm City Assembly of God while in CA. George also worked on and restored old cars. Survivors include daughters Linda Kay (Mike) Tucker, of El Cajon, CA and Sharon Ann (Jim) Deuel, of Sun City West, AZ and Allyn, WA; brother William H. (Jo) Voorhies, of El Dorado, AR; sister Nancy B. Cuckler, of Hot Springs, SD; 7 grandchildren, Derinda, Jim, Diana, Christine, Jason, Russell, and Ann Marie; and 17 great grandchildren, Andy, Alyssa, Deven, Krista, Nicholas, James, Jamie, Jessica, Mareesa, Joseph, Stephanie, Jason, Brooke, Conner, Ashley, Allison, and Abbey. George was preceded in death by his wife; son Donald Ray Voorhies; brother Chester Voorhies; and sister Mary B. Cuckler.
