George “Terry” Wallace passed peacefully in his sleep on Fathers Day, June 15, 2014.
Terry was born in his family’s farmhouse in rural Cottage Grove, Oregon to Thelma Lou (Moors) and George Edward Wallace on January 24, 1949. He was the New Year’s Baby for Lane County, Oregon that year.
Terry spent his early years in the Wenatchee Valley and often spoke fondly about memories of fishing and exploring that area. In his teens the family moved to Tacoma, where he attended Stadium High School, while there he excelled in mathematics, football and wrestling. He graduated in 1967. Terry served four years in the Marine Corps as Aviation Support and two years in the Navy as Flight Deck Support Electrician on the USS Kitty Hawk. He earned an associate’s degree from Spokane Community College, where he graduated with honors. In 1981 he started his career at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard working in Shop 51. Throughout his years at PSNS he was a mentor and teacher to many. At the end of his career he worked in the Crane Maintenance Shop. He retired in 2009 due to illness.
He enjoyed most sports, including bowling and golf. He was a loyal fan of the Seahawks and Mariners, attending the games when he could. Terry always looked forward to “male bonding weekend”, a yearly camping trip with his friends from work. He played online games and loved old cars. His favorite project car was his 1963 Ford Galaxie 500.
Terry met Pat Tech on a blind date in 1966… they fell in love and were inseparable ever since. They married in Tacoma on November 17, 1969. Terry is survived by his wife Pat, two daughters, Tina Posadas of Bremerton, Sarah Wallace of Monterey CA, 6 grandchildren, and one great grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends John and Cathy Akin.
A celebration of Terry’s Life will take place on July 5, 2014, 2:00 pm at Rill’s Life Tribute Center, Port Orchard, WA
