Gerald "Jerry" Lee Newland was born in Salem, Oregon on July 22, 1939 to Gerald "Jerry" K. and Ellie "Babe" Newland. He moved with his parents from Salem to Bremerton, Washington in March of 1941. They lived in Bremerton until 1945 when they moved to Glenwood Rd. Jerry attended school in the South Kitsap School District while running around the Glenwood and south county areas, including what is known as Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1958.
After graduation, Jerry served in the National Guard and Reserves. He was employed with Boeing Paint Ship for several years before hiring on at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a Tool Room Attendant in Shop O6. He remained with P.S.N.S. until his retirement in 1997.
Jerry had married the love of his life, Ann Marie Walker, on September 29, 1961 at Elim Lutheran Church in Port Orchard. They had two children, a daughter, Kim and a son, Lance. Ann and Jerry resided in Port Orchard, raising their two children.
Jerry loved classic cars and was an original member of the Saints Car Club, helping to revive the organization to what it is today. He was also very generous with his time and supported many local charitable organizations, such as South Kitsap Helpline, Family Kitchen, and Rainbow Girls. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed meeting people. At Christmas time he would purchase Poinsettia's from Helpline Holiday Fundraising and distribute them to his local Edward Jones office. He always provided monetary support for Rainbow Girls to attend camp, never skimping on the basic needs to help give these girls a hand up.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Babe Newland and his wife, Ann Marie. He is survived by his daughter Kim (Rick) Carr of Antioch, Il and his son, Lance (Barbara) Newland of Port Orchard. His grandchildren Natalia Carr of Antioch, Il, Amy (Kurt) Spiegel of Yelm, WA and Kathryn Achilles of Tacoma, WA.
