Gladys Marie Lair, 99, a resident of Port orchard, died at Orchard Pointe Memory Care in Port Orchard, WA on June 14, 2012. She was born in Draper, SD to Joshua A. and Mary E. (Reynolds) Robertson on July 29, 1912. She was the 10th of 11 children. Married to Don Lair in 1931. He owned a trucking business until 1945 when Gladys and her husband bought a ranch which they farmed on for many years. They later started Lariat Boys Ranch for court assigned boys with six boys in the beginning. They eventually had as many as 18 boys at a time with a school; 3 homes and house parents. She had a huge garden and grew wonderful tomatoes, corn, green beans, cabbage, radishes, rhubarb and strawberries. Gladys canned hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables during the summer months. She was famous for the breads and cinnamon rolls she would bake. Gladys was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She is survived by sons Earl and Bob; daughters Dorothy, Betty, Jean and Karen; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Private services will be held at a later date.
