Gladys J. Zink, 94, of Port Orchard, WA, died March 30, 2003, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard. She was born on March 29, 1909, in a restaurant in Edmonds, ND, to Charles and Minnie Bell (Spiller) Baker.She married Ted Zink, Sr. on January 4, 1928, in Bordulac, North Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1976.Gladys graduated from Moler Barber College in Seattle, WA in 1944. After receiving her barber license, she owned and operated Gladys' Barber Shop in Annapolis, WA, went on to work in her father's barber shop in Port Orchard and later resumed operation of her own business out of her home on Lidstrom Hill in Port Orchard, retiring in November 2002.Along with her husband, she also co-owned Ted Zink's Rural Garbage Service from 1946 to 1974.Gladys enjoyed her career very much. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great granchildren.Her hobbies included making raised copper pictures and crocheting scrub pads. Another favorite pastime was cooking, especially cinnamon rolls, fried chicken and homemade noodles.Gladys is survived by her son, Ted Zink, of Tonasket, WA; daughter, Gloria Nohrenberg of Port Orchard; sister, Opal Wilson, of Harper, WA; 13 grandchildren: Brenda Zink-McKee, Bret Zink, Robbie Zink, Donna Barnes, Ronald Nohrenberg, Richard Nohrenberg, all of Port Orchard, Sharon Torricellas and Jacquie Belyea, of Eugene, Oregon, Teddie and Lily Bussey, of Dallas, TX, Durand Zink and TaMara Bale of Bremerton, WA, Yazmin Wood, of Arkansas City, KS; 20 great-grandchildren; and, 3 great/great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Douglas, her daughter Theresia, a granddaughter Linda Nohrenberg, 1 brother and 5 sisters.Visitations will be held at Rill Chapel on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, from 12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 2, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.A funeral service will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 1:00 p.m.Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton.Memorial Donations may be made to:Childrens' Hospital4800 Sand Point Way NESeattle, WA 98105
