GORDON MICKEY BOYD (GORDY) Gordon was born October 25, 1934 and died July 16, 2016 at Harrison Hospital, Bremerton. He was born in Lima, Ohio to Steiner and Georgiana Boyd (Brown). He had two sisters- Clarice Zurich, Cincinnati, Ohio and Irene Wilmoth (Jim), Lima, Ohio. All preceded Gordon in passing. Gordon enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from high school. He served 22 years, retiring in September, 1974. He served as a Chief Electrician Mate with various duty stations. He started on the USS Epperson then was reassigned to Naval Base Long Beach, Calif. During the Vietnam Conflict, Gordon was assigned to the USS Oriskany, then Naval Reserve Fleet for Inactive Ships at Ruff and Ready Island in Stockton, Calif and later on the USS Coral Sea. Gordon finished his Navy career as a Work Study Analyst attached to NavMacPac in San Diego, Calif. In his traveling to various bases doing his work as an efficiency expert, Gordon was assigned to PSNS in Bremerton. Liking the area, he moved his family to Port Orchard upon retirement as a Chief Electrician Mate. Gordon was married to Bonita in 1955 and they had two daughters, Dawn(Boyd) Travis (Dwayne) and Daryle Tamera Boyd. The grandchildren from this marriage are Briana (Travis) Butcher (Ken), Amber Travis, Jennifer (Travis) Alfieri (Bret) and John Travis. Also a great-grandson Colton (CJ) Butcher. Gordon married Bernice Crosby on Nov 11, 1966 at Ruff and Ready Island, Stockton, Calif. They were married 49 years. Their children are Michele Boyd and Michael Boyd (Sarah). Their grand-daughters are Mikayla Boyd and Marissa Boyd. Gordon was employed at PSNS in shop 51 as a nuclear electrician for 22years. He retired on September 1, 1997. He was an avid fan of baseball for many years, working with players involved with South Kitsap Western Little League. He was also a great supporter of South Kitsap High School sports programs. Services are being arranged by Rill Chapel's. On August 14th there will be an open house to celebrate Gordon's life at the family home. The open house will be from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Family services with Honor Guard will be held on August 15th at Sunset Lane for interment. Gordon was a very loving husband, father and papa. He will be greatly missed.
