Grace Hammond

Grace Hammond McCaskey, 88 of Port Orchard, died peacefully at home of natural causes on December 14, 2008. She was born in Anderson, South Carolina on May 14, 1920 and graduated from high school there in 1939. She went on to graduate from Cortez W. Peters Business School in 1941 and married Fred McCaskey December 9th that year in Elkton, Maryland. He preceded her in death in 1988. Grace worked as a Supervisory Retail Clerk at Jagerman’s Supermarket in New York, New York retiring from there after more than 40 years. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church an avid collector of elephant artifacts and a loving mother, nana and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her son Frederick McCaskey; sisters Irene Brown, Annie Simpson, Arlee Christmas and Eleanor Cruise; brothers Theodore, Jerry and Charles Hammond. She is survived by her daughter Aurelia “Penny’ Leal; sisters Theresa Fenwick of Baltimore, MD and Mary Thorpe of Brooklyn, NY; grandchildren Andrea Campbell, Pedro Leal and Alicia Finch (Tobe) and great-grandchildren Joshua Campbell, Janita Leal, Sydney, Ryann and Payton Finch.
