Greg passed away on July 5th, 2015 from heart failure due to complications as a result of cancer and chemotherapy. He was 60 years old.
Greg was born on August 27, 1954 to Joy and Hubert Bishop in Shilo Valley Township, Illinois. His father was in the Air Force and his family was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. As a result of his father’s service, Greg was able to travel quite a bit. He loved to share stories and memories of the four years his family spent in Greece, but he always had a special place in his heart for Mississippi. In 1976 Greg graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. It was there he met his first wife, Cassandra Bass. They have a son, Gaston.
Upon graduation and completion of the ROTC program, Greg joined the Army and spent his time in service at Fort Carson, Colorado. There he met Diane Russell. They married on January 19th, 1980. They have three children: Glenn, Russell, and Natascha.
After leaving the service Greg worked for a few years for Frito Lay in Topeka, Kansas. The family moved to Kitsap County in 1984 and Greg worked in Seattle for six years. This past December he retired after working for 25 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Greg is preceded in death by his father, Hubert Aubrey Bishop, and his younger brother, Richard Glenn Bishop. He is survived by his mother, Joy Voncile (Mahana) Bishop; his wife, Diane Pauline (Russell) Bishop; his sons, Gaston Richard Bishop, Glenn Aubrey Bishop, and Russell William Bishop; and his daughter, Natascha Anne Marie Bishop.
Greg was a kind and gracious man who loved his family more than anything else in this world. He was so proud of all his children and his face would light up every time he talked about them.
A memorial service celebrating Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, July 25th at 12:00 noon at South Colby United Methodist Church, 2881 Harvey Street SE, Port Orchard WA.
