On Friday, May 16th, 2014, this world lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. Greg Wilson of Port Orchard went to heaven to be with Jesus. Greg was such an incredible man, who lived life as a wonderful example of how to love God, his wife, daughters, grandsons, and others.
Greg was born in Bremerton, WA on June 30th, 1946 to Willard and Lorraine Wilson, and graduated from West High School in Bremerton. He later met the love of his life, Brenda Broman, and they were married on May 19th, 1972. After serving in the United States Army, he completed the apprenticeship program at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and worked at the Shipyard until 2001, at which time he retired. A few years later, he began working for Vigor Industrial (formerly Todd Shipyard), where he worked until his recent passing.
In addition to the joy of spending time with his precious grandsons, Caleb and Tanner Scott, Greg loved the outdoors, as seen in the enjoyment of his hobbies of sailing, skiing, camping, kayaking, and hunting, to name just a few. In fact, he and Brenda lived aboard their beloved sailboat for many years. In addition, he enjoyed his travels to many parts of the world, including Switzerland, Mexico and Thailand.
Greg gave much of his time, energy and resources to others in order to make their lives better. One cause near and dear to his heart was working through the organization Youth With A Mission to help aid in the process of getting medical supplies to leper villages in China. He helped to start a fund, “Change for Lepers Can Change Their Lives”, which supported this effort by providing a vehicle to transport the necessary supplies.
We will always remember and treasure the love Greg showed to his family and all those around him. His legacy of love will live on, and we will never forget the difference he made in people’s lives on this earth by the way he lived his life. Although we mourn his passing, we rejoice with Greg on his entrance to heaven, and look forward to seeing him again.
Greg is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda Wilson, daughter Kerri Lutterloh (husband Joel) of Graham, WA, daughter Shawna Wilson of Bremerton, WA, grandsons Caleb Scott and Tanner Scott, and brother Randy Wilson of Portland, OR. The family would like to thank all of those who have sent support in the form of prayers, phone calls, flowers, etc. Your love is much appreciated during this difficult time.
A celebration of Greg’s life is planned for 1:00pm on Sat. June 28th, 2014. There will be opportunities to exchange remembrances of Greg and to join his family for lunch. The location is a private residence at 11300 SE Southworth Dr., Port Orchard. There is plenty of parking available.
