Grover Edward Friedrich passed away on Sept. 16, 2018, at Franciscan Hospice Home in University Place, Washington. He was 87.
Grover was born May 14, 1931, to Grover J. and Ann E. Friedrich (Bruckner) in Westfield, N.J. The family moved to Port Orchard in 1940. Grover attended South Kitsap schools before leaving to work in the family sawmill, where he was a power saw operator.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and served two years during the Korean War.
On July 27, 1953, he married Dolores A. Norman in Port Orchard and the couple raised five children.
Grover worked in the asphalt paving business, primarily as a roller operator, retiring in 1993 after 24 years. He later operated a small engine repair shop at his home.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing guitar, singing, and country and western music.
Grover is survived by sons Ed (Kate Cunningham), Ted (Shellie), Dave (Sarah) and Dan (Shelia), and daughter Cheryl Vandaveer (Kirk), 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dorothy Leonard.
He will be buried alongside his parents at Sunset Lane Cemetery in Port Orchard.
