Harry Tobias

July 25, 1918 — April 9, 2007

Harry Clair Tobias, 88, of Bremerton, died from cancer April 9 at his home in Bremerton, with his family at his bedside. He was born in Albany, Oregon, to Harry R. and Ella Tobias, the third of five children, and attended Garibaldi High School. He married Lillian Marie Vaughan, his wife of 61 years, in 1946. Harry served in the Unites States Army from 1938 to 1961, and was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He was a motor pool maintenance officer in posts at home and abroad, and also tested new armored vehicles. After retirement, Harry and Lillian spent more than two decades traveling off and on throughout the western and southern United States. They also lived for many years in Yuma AZ. Harry and Lillian, both northwest natives with family in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, returned to the region in 1989 and have lived in Kitsap County ever since. Harry's survivors include his wife Lillian; sister Barbara Lacey; sons Ralph and Steven, daughter Mary Seward and son-in-law David Seward; grandchildren David Seward Jr., Sunnie Johnson and Heather Seward; and numerous great-grandchildren.
