Russ Dahl of Belfair, WA died February 5, 2011 at the Emeritus Oaks in Silverdale, WA of Alzheimer’s disease. Russ was born in Victor, WA on July 14, 1922 to Henry and Emma Dahl, the eldest of five boys. He graduated from Vaughn High School in 1940. In 1941 he entered the workforce at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. In 1943 he left the shipyard to enlist in the Navy during World War II. He served onboard ship during the Battle of Okinawa. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. After 23 years of Government service he left to pursue his passion - working in the woods. Russ did everything one could imagine to make a living from the woods. His true labor of love was his Christmas trees. He never really retired, just slowed down after many years of hard work. He was still out cutting wood and selling Christmas trees to his customers well into his 80’s. In April of 1947 he married Barbara Reed. Together they had three daughters, Arlene McKean (Terry) of Allyn, Christie Veitch of Belfair and Gail Dahl of Yakima. They have four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is survived by three of his four brothers, Noel of Bothell, Donn of Belfair, and David of Mountlake Terrace. His brother Jim of Carefree, AZ preceded him in death. Russ enjoyed many years playing softball on numerous Bremerton City Leagues and was inducted into the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. After his softball days he could be seen out playing golf on many local courses, mostly at Lakeland Village where he was a member for nearly 40 years. He was active in the Victor Community Club. Services are scheduled for 12:00 pm Saturday, Feb. 12 at Rill’s Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard with reception following in Rill’s Hospitality Room. A viewing starting at 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment is at Twin Firs Cemetery in Belfair.
