Homer C. Sims Sr. of Port Orchard, Washington died March 25, 2004 at his residence. He was 85. He was born December 6, 1918 in Birmingham, Alabama to Homer and Sara (Hubbard) Sims. Homer married Rebecca DeJesus (Sevilla) Sims October 8, 1981 in Bremerton, Washington. He graduated from high school in Birmingham, Alabama. He was U.S. Navy Retired; and, served from 1941 to 1966 as a Hospital Corpsman First Class. He was awarded the Purple Heart at the battle of Iwo Jima in 1945; and, was a Plank owner of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk. Homer served 22 years. Following retirement from the U.S. Navy he went to work at McDonalds as a manager in San Diego, California. After moving to Port Orchard, he was a janitorial maintenance employee at Keyport Naval Station. He retired in 1984. Homer served with the C.C.C. in Alabama following high school until entering the Navy. He was a member of Shriners in Alabama. He was an avid bowler, sports enthusiast participating in sports when young and a spectator later on. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard. Homer is survived by his wife - Rebecca (Sevilla) Sims of the Port Orchard, Washington family home; sons - LeBron Sims (& wife, Linda) of Federal Way, LeeRoy Sims (& wife, Karen) of Olympia, Homer "Cleve" Sims, Jr. (& wife, Cindy) of Sequim, Charles Sims (& friend, Debbie) of Silverdale; daughter - Teresa Otto of Graham, Washington; 11 grandchildren (Daniel, Kenneth, Jennifer, Jarod, Matthew, Jason, Ashley, Mark, Chris, Derrick, Nicole); 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: sister - Sara Watkins. A viewing will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A funeral will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington at 11:00 a.m. on April 1, 2004. Interment will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington at 2:00 p.m. on April 1, 2004.
