Houston Carter, 73, of Port Orchard, WA died May 9, 2014 surrounded by his family at home. He was born July 2, 1940 in Amory, MS. He joined the US Navy Oct 10, 1957 and retired as an Operations Specialist Chief and Radar man on Jan 16, 1978. He served on the USS Constellation, Coral Sea, Ranger and Oriskany. Houston participated in Viet Nam, Cuban Missile Crisis and Pueblo Incident. His awards consisted of 3 Good Conduct Medals, 2 Meritorious Unit Commendations, National Defense Service Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Houston was preceded in death by his mother Bernice Jackson Murray, father Houston L Carter, and sister Beauty Thomas. He is survived by his wife Darla D Carter; children Michael Carter, Jamie Cobb, and Matthew (Heather Anderson) Williams; grandchildren Rocky, Darra, Kalina, Natalia, Emelia, Julianna, Makayla, Alexa and Savanna; siblings Grace Blayman and Bernardis Murray; and his devoted 4 legged girls Holly and Wolfie.
