Howard Oakley Bever, age 86, died August 14, 2024, in the Grace and the Love of God. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Community Church in Port Orchard, WA. Inurnment will be in Dighton, Kansas.
Howard was born in Oroville, California on July 13, 1938. He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Cecil and Gladys Bever, and his brother, George Bever.
Howard is survived by his children, Cherilyn Bever, Scott Bever and Sammy Kay; his sister, Gail Gunning, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a niece and nephews.
Howard spent his life in service. First in the U.S. Air Force, then as a teacher and counselor. After retiring from education, he became a pastor, serving churches in Dighton and Utica, Kansas, and several interim pastorates. His lifelong joy was singing bass.
In 2017, Howard moved to Port Orchard, Washington, where he shared a condo with his sister Gail. Among Howard's many interests were his active church life, reading voraciously, being well-informed and telling stories to friends and strangers, always sharing the love of God. Howard will be remembered for being kind, generous, loving, and embodying the Spirit of Christ.
